An interesting article about why the MTA Mechanics are on strike… Its also over health care coverage… Apparently the MTA Mechanics pay nothing if they’re unmarried or $6/mo for family coverage… They’re striking because the MTA only wanted to increase its funding of health care by 19% this year and 49% by year 3 plus $4million to the union’s health care trust fund…

There’s also an interesting little bit here about how the Union had transferred almost half a million dollars from its health care trust fund to its general fund and won’t hand over any accounting info… Sounds like the Union has some splainin’ to do… And in the mean-time, a lot of people can’t get to school or work.
