I did a job interview yesterday for an AIX admin/support position. It seemed to go very well… I nailed the technical side. The tech interviewer was talking low to mid 50’s… They decided to pass, though…

It could have been a good opportunity, but there were things that I was letting slide that I really didn’t feel comfortable about… Like the agreement to binding arbitration. I’m not planning to sue my future employers, but having seen all the shit my dad has gone through, I don’t want to limit my options.

At least I got a nice number out of this… That 50’s range was good. It confirmed my suspicions about what I’m worth. Now I just need to find a company that I want to work for.

Oh, during the tech interview, the guy had me work on a shell script to see how I would tackle the problem. I didn’t get the answer solved there, but I was still thinking about it when I got home, so I wrote the script, tested it, and emailed him a link to it… Check it out, if ya like. Its 110 lines, of which 34 is actual code. 😉

While the script is pretty much worthless, and I doubt I’d actually ever want to use it, I’m pretty happy with it.

I’m still cleaning up a bit of the mess left from transferring bhodisoft… Things are going smoothly now, though. The forum is down for good, if you’re wondering. The guestbook may make an appearance soon.

Who knows, maybe I’ll even write a decent journal entry or… even draw a comic!

At the outset of this month, I made myself a promise. By the end of April, I would be linux certified… Today I passed the LPI 102 test, the second of two required exams for certification. As of this afternoon, I hold the highest currently offered level of certification by LPI…. Not bad.

Well, a couple weeks back I passed the Linux Professional Institute 101 exam… I’ve been studying for 102, and I think I’ll be taking (and passing) that later this week. I picked up the book “General Linux II” by Emmett Dulaney and Chris Hare, and aside from some errors that really should have been caught before going to print, its been an excellent aide.

I think (hope) that Aleph1 killed my bugtraq post… It really wasn’t a big enough deal to post, and I was pretty much just submitting it so I could see my name in an advisory, I suspect… Bah, whatever…

I saw “Bounce” two nights ago… It was really excellent, and I can see why Ben Afleck calls it the best work he’s ever done.

Last night I was thinking about how I have this great opportunity right now… I have the opportunity to be a self-made man. If I go somewhere in my field, it will be because I taught myself what I need to know, and because I earned my success…. That’s something to be proud of.

I’m currently barracading the doors… I just posted a warning message to bugtraq that is of questionable significance. I figure its an issue worth advising the uninformed about, so… well, hence the term advisory, I suppose.

If it was a mistake, hopefully Aleph1 will kill it before the flames come. BTW, the advisory can be sorta found here.

*goes and hides in the corner…

I’ve been having a hell of a time sleeping lately… I only sleep for a few hours at a time, and its restless sleep… I have to force myself into it and to stay there.

I currently have that hot, drained, sweaty buzz of sleep deprivation… Dry, itchy eyes… Fun stuff.

Killed my UO account. As with most multi-player games, there is a constant stream of assholes out to ruin your fun… whether its jumping into your 1on1 fight vs an earth elemental without asking, and looting it of the 300 gold pieces before you get the chance, complaining about your choice of weapon (silver broadsword in the bone knight room?! go fight lichs you dick!), or taking advantage of your membership to the same guild to kill you and loot your body… It was fun for a time, and I was .2% from my first grandmastery, but it just wasn’t fun anymore.

Oh well, Caelyn O’Brien has retired before reaching his full potential… I suppose that’s the story of my life, actually.
