James and I dug holes in the back yard looking for a leak in one of the sprinkler zones. We think its right under a big ass tree root and not something we are equipped to tackle on our own. I’ve shut that zone down and set the others to auto, so tomorrow they yard will get watered… shoulda done that last week, my grass is looking dead.

James picked up a push mower and mowed the front lawn in no time at all. We will attempt to do the back yard tomorrow when there is light.

I made some progress on redistributing boxes around the house…. house, not apartment… heh.

Got about four hours sleep last night thanks to work. And most of today was spent working or waiting to work anyway. We’re upgrading our app server software across the entire site. Its a major project that we’ve been working on for months and has been a major point of worry. Thursday is the official cutover, but we put 6 servers in rotation this evening and they’ll be in until monday morning. So far so good.

Saw nicole briefly. Hi nicole!

I haz a cold

My a/c works! Woohoo! First night in the house I was able to sleep under the covers and close my windows (blocking out the noise from Kuehner). James and I are plotting out how to arrange the downstairs to facilitate movie nights and pillow rooms. I have a lot of unpacking to do.

Folks have totally made this happen. They’ve been amazing.

I feel bad for james cause so much crap has been in turmoil at the house, including his bathroom getting totally rearranged out from under him a couple times due to shower door work and the clogged a/c drain getting blown out (throwing sludge all over his bathroom including his toothbrush).

I still feel like an idiot for not asking out the cable girl…. damnit.

Passing Lane

I’ve heard some complaints about california drivers going “slow” (i.e. the speed limit) in the fast lane because its a “passing lane”. That is the case in some states, but not in California. Here’s the handbook on use of lanes:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/hdbk/pgs22thru25.htm

It recommends not using the left lane, but that’s a suggestion for smoother driving, not a requirement.

Passing lanes are short lanes that open up on one lane roads to allow you to get past someone. Either a broken yellow, or a second lane that appears for a short distance and then goes away. In what California calls a passing lane, sure, I think we should string people up for not staying to the right and taking turnouts. But otherwise, suck it up. Go around them on the right if you can.
