Here’s part of my target from yesterday. There is actually a few inches of target to the left of this. Nineteen out of twenty shots are visible. The other shot that went wild is just right of where the image got cut (was too big to fit in my scanner). Its less than half a centemeter from his head, level with the bottom of his cap.

I just can’t hack. I tried exploiting wu-ftpd on james’ system while it is still here, but no go. I even upgraded it and tried exploits for THAT version. (I patched it once I’d given up)
The really bad thing is that my inspiration for trying (again) was this lamerz guide to skript kiddie behavior (he didn’t present it that way) over at packetstorm… The guy used the same exploit against the same version running on the same OS, and it worked.
James says I’m enchanted… Exploits don’t work around me. Well, that’d be pretty cool, but I’d still like to be able to accomplish something that hundreds of 14 year olds straight out of windows can do… Bah!

My house is a strangely lit environment lately… My room has a constant red glow, thanks to E/Irwin’s heat lamp. Of course there are also the little power lights, the glow from a monitor gone black, digital readouts from my VCR, alarm clock/radio and the cable unit. There’s also a red light on my answering machine, but that’s pretty much hidden from view, so I don’t notice it (had a couple messages there for days before I noticed). Little yellow power lights on the speakers, on the monitors, on the keyboard, on the GoldCam. Glowing lights from the hubs, the NICs and the power strips. My room is constantly humming with electronics… I just know one of these days my testicles are going to swell up like grapefruits and my children will have antlers. But damn they’ll be some kickass quake players!
I was also gonna mention my half-lit bathroom because of a blown ballast, whatever that is… but I wandered off on that electronics tangent and my bathroom just isn’t that exciting. Oh, my ear isn’t ringing right now… First time since Monday morning… Maybe I won’t need to go see the doc for it, after all.

I really love the Scream series; such a kick ass, intelligent take on the horror genre. Neve Campbell makes a badass heroine too. I kinda miss those red streaks from Wild Things, though.

Just got back from Shooter’s Paradise with dad. We went through most of our ammo that’s been lying around the house. I fired 60 rounds through my nonexistant Beretta 96fs. 20 of those rounds were at a hostage target, which is a half-sized target of a man holding a hostage at gunpoint in front of him. I fired with the target at 25′ so it was equivalent to a full sized target at 50′. 2 shots out of my second magazine went wild, one way off to the left, and one just barely missing the terrorist’s head. My first shot, inspired by my dad mentioning the brachial nerve (actually the brachial plexus), was to the terrorist’s gun arm. Second shot was forehead, above the left eye. I had another shot later go wild and end up in his collarbone (right shoulder area), but all the rest were head shots… Well, a couple went low and ended up in the throat, but that’s still effective, I’d say. I definately broke his sunglasses.

Hey, z0rk signed the guestbook… ‘ats pretty cool. I spent the day with james, as usual. We put a little work into Monolith, grabbed fud down at Pizzeria La Piccola, checked out some motorcycles… In the evening we got together with Ty and Akoni to see “Way of the Gun” again, and made a post-midnight run to In-N-Out. The girl behind the counter was way busy… She thought she had zoned and not charged me for my drink, but it was on my receipt when I checked later… She told me just to not tell anyone, though. 😉
Hauled Ty and James back here so James could put some more work into Monolith, while Ty and I watched Montana. Ty said he dug what he saw of it, but that he’d fallen asleep for a few minutes… I guess he’s been a bit narcoleptic today, so I didn’t mind. He’s hanging with D tomorrow! Rock on!
Its too damn hot. I came back home to find the cold side of E/Irwin’s tank at 85 degrees… well, the room is all dark now, and the window is open… I’m trying to cool the room down and his tank with it… I feel sorry for the poor guy. He should be able to handle this, but I’m not enjoying myself, so its gotta suck for the poor dude… He can’t even bitch about the heat. That’s gotta suck.
The ex and I are having a very bipolar relationship… I give up trying to figure things out… I’m just gonna try going my own way, and maybe we’ll end up in the same place eventually. Which basically means, I’m going to work on changing those elements of my life that I feel need change, I’m going to try not to let her bug me, and I hope things will work out for us… We’ve had too good of a relationship for me to want to see it die.
I was drowning my sorrows in cans of Coke all day… I was thinking about watering one down with tequila, but it was too early in the day for that sort of thing… And I’m not feeling the urge right now. Ha! My inaction has its good points, ms. ex chicka! ;P
Damn this big old clunker of a computer… Its almost as tall as my desk, and is taking up enough room that I can’t kick back like usual… Will be nice when its gone, but if it gets us closer to money, I’ll deal.
Oh yeah, James and I went out to the Simi Computer User’s Group this eve… They were supposed to have a lecture called “CyberCop” which we thought might be interesting. James was going to defend the hacker community, but I just wanted to hear what they had to say. The lecturer was sick, though. Hopefully they’ll reschedule it… I wonder if it’ll turn out to be the Mod Squad Hax0r chick from my Intro to the Internet class at Moorpark. (yeah, it was easy units…)
They’re doing a linux demo next week… Think I should go? ;D Eh, it’ll probably be an Xwindows demo… and who uses X?

When my father was the age I am now, he had established a name for himself with the police department, had set his mind on a career, was married and I was recently born. I think maturity slipped past me somewhere.

The problem with Kaivalya’s new journal is that I now have another site I need to check daily… What with User Friendly, Sluggy Freelance, The Hunger Site, The Rainforest Site, Real Life Comics, and Sinfest (I save it for last)… And my flood of emails from Bugtraq and my PenTest mailing lists… My Linux Today security newsletter, and my CERT Advisory mailing list… And my Security Focus pager… And the LinuxNewbie.Org discussion groups… Not to mention the Daily Nothings!
Well, I’m pretty damn busy with just keeping up to date… I occasionally get the chance to check out some headlines, and look for a new BOFH… I barely have time to check my stats over at Distributed.net or SETI@home, and see if Dark Tangent has updated the DefCon page… and still meet the BitterKid for donuts.
Of course then there are the days when I actually find a problem I have to fix, deal with some lame skript kiddie, or patch together some new CGI toy of mine…
Damn! Where does the time go…?

I just got done reading Kaivalya’s journal and man did it blow me away! It was bleak and depressing, but it was also very, very real.
Also just finished reading the new Daily Nothing… Argh, my net connection just died… damn GTE! Their new commercial says “No Sudden Disconnects”… Yeah, Right! Baaaah… well, I’m not ready to comment on either of these fine journals right now, they’re too significant for a shoot from the hip commentary by me. Maybe later…

It is the kewpie’s birthday. Rejoice!
And on a related note, its 5 days to Fade’s birthday… and she still doesn’t know I sent her a shirt. ;D
