Started learning knot tying for sailing class (Starts next week) so I’ve been reading about different knots… I’d always been curious about the knots that james bond used in ‘for your eyes only’ to climb up a rope and found that it is a prusik knot… which looked a hell of a lot like a knot I discovered as a kid when attempting to tie rubber bands together… turns out that what I used was basically this…

a cow hitch or a lark’s head. it isn’t normally done with a loop of course, but I figure that its close enough.

I’m fairly good with a bowline, figure eight, square knot, clove hitch, round turn and two half hitches (all on the test), and I can also tie an alpine butterfly, and a noose. Not having a cleat handy, I haven’t practiced a cleat hitch. I can do a double fisherman with some work…

now to study the bdsm knot guide…

EDIT: Nevermind, after some googleing, I’ve already learned most of them.

Doing it Wrong!

Pamela Anderson, the former Baywatch star and animal-rights activist, is selling her 2000 Dodge Viper RT/10, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, according to Julien’s Auctions of Los Angeles.

The Viper will go up for bidding on June 21 and 22 as part of a live event from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The event will be broadcast on Auction Network starting at 9:30 a.m. PST on both days.

Julien’s Auctions said in a statement that Anderson’s Viper is worth an estimated $30,000-$50,000. It is equipped with a 450-horsepower 8.0-liter V10 engine and has a top speed of more than 190 mph. “The soft-top convertible roof, luxurious leather interior, front spoiler and racing pinstriping make this car look sexy even if you don’t,” said Julien’s Auctions. …

I don’t like Ted Kennedy. I don’t agree with his politics. However, I wish him well in his fight against the brain tumor, as I wish any human being well. I know there will be people who are very happy about his illness, or who will cheer when he dies, but I won’t be one of them.

Feeling very visual lately. Wanting to do more work in photography and painting. Haven’t painted in years, but I have something in mind from an experience I had last November. I just hope I can pull it off. I’ve pretty much always painted in acrylic, and I don’t know that that would be the right medium. Probably watercolor would be more like it.

Photography wise, I need to learn to be more technical. Ansel Adams said “A good photograph is knowing where to stand.” and that’s pretty much my technique. But if I want to get better at designing photos rather than capturing them as they occur, I need to learn the medium better… Probably also need to start shooting raw and get better at photoshop while I’m at it… Hey, I should get a copy of photoshop. Not that I want to do much touching up, I’d rather get it right in the camera… but if I can make things look better afterward, well, cool.
